Before development begins, identify the content, interaction, and responsive behaviours that cannot change. This protects the work without requiring a developer to guess which details matter.

Share the system, not only screens

Name repeated components and their variants.
Document content limits and empty states.
Describe responsive changes, not only breakpoint screenshots.
Include source assets and accessible alt text.
Call out platform constraints early.
